Drafting of the Philippine Heritage Charter with local heritage experts and ICOMOS Philippines

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the International Council on Monuments and Sites Philippines held a consultation with experts and advocates of heritage last September 8-9, 2016, at Silid Darangen, NCCA Building, Intramuros, Manila City.

The consultation session was the first of the series of consultations that will happen all over the country in the coming years. The leveling consultations gathered local experts from NCR, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to work together in redefining Philippine Heritage that is more comprehensible to Filipinos. It was aimed at further understanding of Philippine Heritage sensibilities, priorities, and therefore implementation of a Philippine Heritage Charter. ICOMOS Philippines member Patricia Maria Santiago served as the project director of the initiative.

ICOMOS Philippines participates in the UNESCO joint expert mission with ICCROM and NCCA

ICOMOS Philippines attended the discussion on the joint expert mission in assessing the situation and damage caused by the recent natural disasters. The mission was held from 2 to 12 December 2013 to Manila to assess areas hit by the Bohol earthquake of 15 October 2013 as well as those areas affected by typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) of early November 2013. 

The goal of the joint mission is to identify immediate needs and emergency safeguarding measures, as well as medium-term interventions that would be needed for rehabilitation and recovery.  Other representatives from the cultural agencies were also present, with the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) leading the mission.

ICOMOS Philippines members elected to NCCA NCMS Executive Council

Several members of ICOMOS Philippines were elected to the 2014-2016 Executive Council of the NCCA National Committee on Monuments and Sites (NCMS). They include Atty. Lucille Kay E. NCMS, under the Subcommission for Cultural Heritage (SCH), is one of the 19 national committees under the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the cultural arm of the government. Its mandate is to assist the NCCA in conserving the rich Filipino built heritage and its environments. Its main task is to formulate strategies, policies, plans, programs, projects, and networking for the protection of historic structures, complexes, and landscapes throughout the Philippines.
