Committee Officers

 

Atty. Lucille “Kay” Karen Malilong-Isberto, Legal Counsel

Kay is a lawyer with advocacies in forest and cultural heritage preservation. She holds degrees in law and economics from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

She headed the Committee on Monuments and Sites at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) from 2014 to 2016. She was Chairperson and later Executive Director of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation (2019-2021), a government owned and controlled corporation mandated to conduct research on humanities and social sciences. She is currently a Vice President of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Legal, Administrative and Financial Issues (ICLAFI).

As the Legal Counsel of ICOMOS Philippines, Kay ensures that the company adheres to the governing laws of the Republic of the Philippines and that the organization’s statutes and rules of procedure compliant and in furtherance of its mission in compliance with international parent organization and local Vision, Mission and Values (VMV) Charter. She assists and provide expert advice on crafting policies to further a sustainable organization, gives accurate and timely counsel to board of trustees in a variety of legal topics, and provides clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization.

 

Mr. Joselito “JJ” H. Corpus, Communications Officer

JJ is an architectural conservator and research associate. He attended Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and his thesis concerned the use of proprietary alkoxysilane systems and their efficacy on fine grained marble. His undergraduate studies were conducted at University of California, Berkeley and the Università degli Studi di Bologna, Italy with a major in history and a minor in visual anthropology,

He interned at the U.S. Department of Interior, National Parks Department, Northeast Region. He was awarded a Kress Grant from Columbia University, and with the partnership of the Yemeni General Organization of Antiquities and Museums, the team documented the endangered mud brick palaces of Tarim, Wadi Hadramut, Yemen. He was employed at Jablonski/Berkowitz Building Conservation and worked on conservation projects at the Cloisters/Metropolitan Museum of Art, JP Morgan Library, Bronx College, and Yale University. He served the City of New York for the Historic House Trust of the New York City’s Parks and Recreation Department and later at the New York City’s Landmark’s Preservation Commission, acting as a technical advisor and ensuring compliance with New York City’s Landmarks Law.

In the Philippines, his major concerns are post-disaster recovery and disaster risk reduction management. He has worked with the Diocese of Tagbilaran and the Diocese of Maasin in post disaster recovery for masonry structures and ecclesiastical collections. He was the former unit head and technical advisor of Escuela Taller de Bohol in Maribojoc, overseeing the development of trainees to rebuild earthquake-damaged masonry structures. For the Escuela Taller de Filipinas Foundation, he was a consultant for the development of manuals and curricula to increase disaster resilience of adobe stone structures.  

He also has a background in senior project leadership in communications, advertising and public relations, servicing enterprise-level corporations domestically and internationally.

As the Communications Officer of ICOMOS Philippines, JJ develops the communications strategy of the organization that is in line with its mission and vision. They stay abreast with the organization’s priorities, programs, and activities and disseminate information on local and international events, learning opportunities, conferences, field schools, and heritage publications.

Ar. Giuseppe “Gio” Luigi H. Abcede, Membership Officer

Gio is an Architect working in construction project management at D.A. Abcede & Associates. He is a graduate of BS Architecture from De La Salle – College of St. Benilde, and was a former intern (2020), now an Associate Member at ICOMOS Philippines where he is also a member of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Working Group. Concurrently, he is also the current President of the Heritage Conservation Society (HCS) since 2023 and sits as the HCS’s representative as an officer at the Philippine Green Building Initiative (PGBI).

Gio’s previous experience ranges from work as an architectural designer with One/Zero Design Co., and as a Research & Development Officer at Digiscript Philippines Inc., designing virtual tours for various cultural heritage sites. He was also a partner designer for fundraising initiatives with the San Sebastian Basilica Conservation & Development Foundation, Inc.

As the Membership Officer of ICOMOS Philippines, Gio develops the ICOMOS membership into a productive, professional, intergenerational, collaborative and satisfied group, in line with direction set by the BoT. He conceptualizes and Manages activities for generating new members, leads the review process elevating members from Associate / Young Professional to Individual Status, keeps track of the annual membership renewal, and identifies/recommends qualified resource members to represent the organization at a speaking / public engagement.

National Representatives and Coordinators

Ar. Claudia Isabelle V. Montero, EPWG National Representative and Coordinator

Claudia is currently a PhD student in the Department of History at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her MPhil thesis focused on the role of history and culture towards built heritage protection, where it investigated how the 2009 National Cultural Heritage Act has been interpreted and implemented in Manila, Philippines. Her main academic interests are in history and historiography of colonial urban spaces (in the Philippines), built heritage, and heritage conservation practice. She is additionally interested in the articulation of the national politics of memory and identity. In 2018 she was a Junior Fellow for the Global Humanities Campus at the Freie Universität Berlin in Germany. An active member of the International Committee for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), she has been involved in several heritage activities in the Philippines.

She is a licensed architect and a conservator of historic buildings with applied experience in research documentation and condition survey assessment. She has worked extensively with nonprofit organizations, private clients and government agencies in the Philippines involving research and consultancy in the study of materials, methods, conservation, and restoration works. Additionally, she worked as a project architect for the National Museum of the Philippines in 2013, which aided in the supervision of the restoration works of several National Cultural Treasures in the Philippines.

As the Emerging Professionals Working Group (EPWG) Representative, Claudia is tasked to be the official representative of the Philippines to ICOMOS International’s Emerging Professionals Working Group and organization’s Internship Officer. She engages in international and regional teleconferences and is the liaison for collaborations with other national committees. She is also in charge of establishing the long-term strategies for ICOMOS Philippines’ Internship program.

Ms. Kristine Kate A. Lim, CCHWG National Representative and Coordinator

Kate is the Republic of the Philippines’ Program Country Director of the Wildlife Conservation Society, an international non-government organization with a mission to save wildlife and wild places through science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to value nature. She is also an archaeologist and a part time faculty at the University of the Philippines – School of Archaeology. Besides ICOMOS, she is a member of several cultural heritage groups such as the the Kapisanan ng mga Arkeologist sa Pilipinas Inc., Tuklas (Discover) Pilipinas Society, Dakila (Nobility) – Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism, and Artists’ Welfare Project, Inc.

At present, Kate is finishing her doctorate degree at the Institute of Geographical Sciences, Department of Earth Sciences, Freie Universitat Berlin. Her on-going study examines Philippine heritage at risk in islands and traditional or archaeological spaces given natural hazards, climate change, and human activities. Her research interests and specialization are on island vulnerability, human-animal-seascape interaction, public archaeology, and the advancement of fisherfolk/farmer and Indigenous People’s rights and welfare.

As the Climate Change and Heritage Working Group (CCHWG) Representative, Kate is tasked to be the official representative of the Philippines to ICOMOS International’s Climate Change and Heritage Working Group. She engages in international and regional teleconferences and are the liaison for collaborations with other national committees. She is also in charge of establishing the long-term strategies for ICOMOS Philippines’ programs on Climate Change and related issues.

Ar. Anjelika A. Orui, SDGWG National Representative and Coordinator

Anjelika is an Architect, a Public Relations Ambassador and was a Research Associate for ICOMOS Philippines’ “Post – Earthquake Damage Assessment of Vernacular Buildings in the World Heritage City of Vigan (PEDAVBV)” funded by UNESCO Jakarta. Previously, she worked as a Project Coordinator in Japan and was a frequent Panel Speaker in conferences about Sustainable Future Cities and Inclusive Design. At the same time, she worked with a non-profit organization that aims to strengthen the ties between Philippines and Japan. She graduated as a Cum Laude in the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and represented the school as its Student Ambassador and Delegate at International Forums. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Property Development in the University of Melbourne Australia.

As the Sustainable Development Goals Working Group (SDGWG) Representative, Anjelika is tasked to be the official representative of the Philippines to ICOMOS International’s Sustainable Development Goals Working Group. She engages in international and regional teleconferences and are the liaison for collaborations with other national committees. She is also in charge of establishing the long-term strategies for ICOMOS Philippines’ programs such as the Philippine Policy Guidance for the Heritage and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Sustainability and related issues.
